How much does it cost to fix a leaking toilet in Florida?
Most toilet leaks in South Florida land between $90 and $250 to fix, and a good number of them are cheaper than that. The wide range exists because "my toilet is leaking" covers three very different problems.
The three usual suspects
1. It runs constantly (water sound, spinning meter). Nine times out of ten this is the flapper or fill valve — rubber parts that South Florida's warm water and occasional chloramine treatment age quickly. Parts cost $10–$30; the visit is mostly labor. Expect the low end of the range.
2. Water at the base after flushing. Usually the wax ring seal between the toilet and the drain flange. The fix means pulling the toilet, replacing the ring, and resetting it — more labor, same modest parts. Mid-range, roughly $150–$250.
3. Water at the base all the time, or a rocking toilet. That can mean a damaged flange or subfloor moisture, especially in older Broward and Miami-Dade homes with cast-iron drains. This is where a repair can turn into a small project, and where a pro should quote in person.
What moves the price
- Urgency. A 7 a.m. emergency call costs more than a Tuesday-afternoon appointment.
- Access and age. Corroded shutoff valves (very common near the coast) add time.
- What's found underneath. A soft subfloor changes the job.
Don't ignore it
A running toilet wastes hundreds of gallons a day — on Florida water rates, the repair often pays for itself inside two billing cycles. A base leak is worse: slab-adjacent moisture invites the kind of problems no one wants to price.
